Innovation and product development

Factory workers on the assembly line, from 1924.Henry Ford's request for a lightweight, one-handed electric drill led to the creation of the Drillinator. Produced by A.H. Petersen, it could handle heavy tasks and provided a better solution than the two-handed drills of the time. Despite the company falling victim to a planned fire and subsequent recession, the Drillinator was auctioned off in 1924 and developed by A.F. Siebert into the Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation.

In 1935, Milwaukee introduced a lightweight 19mm hammer drill for drilling or anchoring in concrete. Easily convertible into a 19mm drill, this tool quickly gained acceptance and was followed by a shorter, lighter, and more specialized unit designed exclusively for precise drilling.

In 1949, Milwaukee introduced the industry's first 12mm angle drill, designed to allow plumbers and electricians to work in tight spaces, with the power to drill 65mm holes in wood and 12mm holes in steel.

In 1951, Milwaukee produced a groundbreaking new tool - the Sawzall reciprocating saw. Being the first portable saw to incorporate a reciprocating mechanism, it had only three moving parts and was designed to withstand daily abuse while still providing an ideal 19mm stroke for cutting and rough finishing. To meet the demands of a market seeking versatility in all types of materials, Milwaukee added a complete range of blades to the Sawzall lineup.

In 1970, Milwaukee launched its first portable band saw, revolutionizing the market. This innovative electric tool redefined portability and performance, allowing professionals to easily tackle a wide range of cutting tasks on the go. The saw boasts a robust construction and a powerful motor, enabling users to cut through various materials with precision and speed.

In 1977, Milwaukee introduced the first Magnum Pro drill and the high-torque Hole-Hawg drill. The powerful motor and advanced design of the Magnum Pro drill allowed effortless drilling through various materials, making it an indispensable tool on construction sites and ambitious DIY projects. On the other hand, the high-torque Hole-Hawg drill brought unmatched power and precision to tasks involving large diameter holes. Its ability to easily handle demanding drilling tasks earned it a reputation as the ultimate drill for electricians, plumbers, and carpenters.

In 2005, after years of development and millions of dollars in investment, Milwaukee disrupted the industry by inventing the first lithium-ion battery for use in power tools. The technology was introduced with the launch of the revolutionary v28 lithium-ion battery technology and the cordless tool line. The v28 battery could provide tools with more runtime and power than a traditional 18-volt nickel-cadmium battery, at the same weight. It also offered fade-free performance and opened up opportunities for corded tools to go cordless.

In 2008, the M12 cordless range was designed to offer industry-leading durability and peak power in a compact size. Also in the same year, the M18 range was developed to be the ultimate synergy of professional-grade power, extreme performance, and superior ergonomics.

In 2010, Milwaukee became the first manufacturer to use redLithium-ion batteries in its range of cordless tools.

In 2012, Milwaukee introduced the M12 Fuel and M18 Fuel ranges. This product is more compact, with unmatched precision and redefined performance.

In 2014, Milwaukee introduced the Trueview Lighting and ForceLogic ranges. Trueview, the industry's first high-power LED lighting technology, was created to provide professionals with the ability to bring direct light to the workplace, using Milwaukee's optical design. ForceLogic, high-force tools, were introduced for professionals focused on quality. These include innovative technology, faster connections, increased runtime, and are built with durable materials. Also in the same year, hand tools were introduced into the range.

In 2016, Milwaukee paved the way for the next industry-changing technology with the introduction of One-Key, the first digital platform for construction tools. By integrating artificial intelligence into tools, through a custom-built cloud-based program, One-Key offers a new level of control and access to information that revolutionizes the way work is done. This fundamentally changes how users interact with their tools and helps solve problems and frustrations that the industry has failed to address. Since the launch of the One-Key app in February 2016, Milwaukee has released a series of game-changing solutions - tool control, inventory management, and tool reporting - with the aim of unlocking digitalization on the job site.

In 2017, Milwaukee began investing heavily in outdoor power equipment. Recognizing that its battery and motor technology can revolutionize the outdoor equipment industry by providing the power and performance needed to replace gasoline-powered tools. These are capable of tasks such as cutting and cleaning, while ensuring maximum efficiency and durability.

In 2018, Milwaukee Packout became the first system to offer true modularity for personalized storage. Adapted to fit your needs, whether you're on the job site, during transport, or for precise organization in a workshop. The Packout system allows users to interchange and combine over 100 solutions, including tool boxes, organizers, tool bags, hooks, and mounts. This versatility, combined with its durability, positions the Packout system as the most reliable and adaptable storage system available in the industry.

In 2021, Milwaukee introduced their range of personal protective equipment. With over 850+ solutions, innovating workwear in construction with cut-resistant gloves and anti-fog safety glasses, Milwaukee provides innovative solutions for industrial work equipment that doesn't slow down users, helping them stay safe and productive on the job site. With nearly 100 years of experience in providing the highest quality tools and accessories for professionals globally, Milwaukee has become one of the most trusted providers of personal protective equipment worldwide.

In 2022, the dual battery platform was launched by Milwaukee. This innovative system simultaneously utilizes two M18 REDLITHIUM batteries, providing more power and extended runtime compared to single battery lawn mowers. The dual battery technology ensures consistent and uninterrupted performance.

In 2023, Milwaukee introduces Packout Shop Storage. The Packout system offers workshop storage solutions designed for optimal organization in a workshop environment.
